| Religion and Social Studies
Mr. Stohlman teaches Religion and Social Studies for Grades 6, 7 and 8.
Middle school Religion classes focus on the Old Testament, The life of Jesus, the Church of Yesterday and Today, and preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation.
Social studies ranges from application of geography skills to ancient cultures and the foundations of our American heritage. These are enhanced by presentations by the students themselves, and from the enriched community outside the classroom.
Language Arts, Literature, Spelling and Vocabulary
Mrs. Gavin teaches literature, language arts, spelling and vocabulary for grades 6, 7 and 8.
The school year begins with a heavy focus on building grammar skills, followed by writing practice. Most weeks end with a spelling or vocabulary test. The students write one to two book reports every quarter. Our textbooks are Voyages in English for language arts. Seventh & eighth grade literature text- books are McDougal Littell, Literature and Language. Sixth grade’s literature book is McGraw-Hill Reading Series. Eighth graders have independent reading each year with a focus on classic literature, such as To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens and Inferno by Dante Alighieri.
Science and Math
Mrs. Luann Fine teaches science and math for grades 6, 7, and 8.
