Hola! I am Señor Armando Matos, the Spanish teacher at St. John the Evangelist. I was born in the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. I have a BA in Anthropology (focused in the area of archaeology) from Catholic University of America in Washington D.C.; 24 graduate hours for an MA in Anthropology from the College of William and Mary; And, 12 graduate hours in Systematic Theology from Notre Dame Graduate School at Christendom College. My Specialty is 16th Century Spanish encounter with the Natives Americans of Eastern North America. Also, I am member of the International Honor Society for Social Sciences ( Phi Gamma Miu) and an Adjunct Instructor of Spanish at Germanna Community College for the Work Force Division.
I teach Spanish to Preschool, Elementary and Middle School. My philosophy as a teacher is "to teach is to learn that in order to get results sometimes we have to take the less traveled road." My goal as a teacher is to introduce the students of St. John the Evangelist to Hispanic culture, society and language as a tool to gain more knowledge and wisdom. It is interesting to see how the Spanish language is becoming very important in the United States as result of our close relationship with the Hispanic world. Now, the Internet Revolution makes us closer to the culture and life style of Spanish America and Spain. To learn another language is power and overall more competitive in the areas of commerce and science.
